1The answer

Under Law 6458 Art. 54(1), eleven categories receive a deportation order, including (most relevant to students/residents):

  • Those with criminal convictions where deportation is ordered (5237 Sayılı Kanun Art. 59).
  • Terror-organisation members/supporters or organised-crime members.
  • Those who used false documents or false information in entry/visa/ikamet applications.
  • Those earning a living through unlawful means.
  • Those threatening public order, security, or health.
  • Those who overstay their visa or visa-exemption by more than 10 days, or whose visa is cancelled.
  • Those whose ikamet permits are cancelled.
  • Those who overstay their expired ikamet by more than 10 days without an acceptable reason.
  • Those working without a work permit.
  • Those who violated legal entry/exit rules (or attempted to).
  • Those who entered Türkiye despite an existing entry ban.
  • Failed international protection applicants with no other right to stay.
  • Those whose ikamet renewal was refused and didn't leave within 10 days.
  • (Added 2016) Those linked to internationally-designated terror organisations.

4Watch-outs
Watch out
  • Note how many categories involve 10-day windows for overstays. The 10-day buffer is short — don't rely on it.
  • Working without a work permit triggers deportation EVEN IF you hold a valid ikamet for other purposes.
  • "False information in applications" includes innocent-looking misstatements — be precise on every form.
