When should I apply to renew my student ikamet?

⚠ General information, not legal advice. For high-stakes decisions, confirm with the official institution named in the next-step below, or consult a qualified Turkish lawyer.
Pending expert review. This Fact is sourced but has not yet been reviewed by an independent legal expert. Treat as a starting point.
1The answer

Renewal applications must be submitted via e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr within the 60 days BEFORE your current ikamet expires, AND in all cases BEFORE the expiry date.

Late renewal applications create serious legal-status risks.

4Watch-outs
Watch out
  • Mark your calendar at 60 days before expiry as the trigger to start your renewal — not the expiry date itself.
  • Renewing on or after the expiry date risks fines and may invalidate your stay.
  • Renewal goes through the same e-ikamet portal as the first application.
  • The renewal also goes through your university — same process as first-time submission.
5Next step
What to do

Open your current ikamet card. Note the expiry date. Set a calendar reminder for 60 days before that. When the reminder fires, start the renewal application immediately.

> Ghanaian · Medical doctor · 10+ years in Türkiye · English / French / Hausa / Turkish

Dr. Yahaya is a Ghanaian medical doctor who has lived in Türkiye for over a decade. He completed his medical degree at a Turkish university and has navigated the full post-graduation transition — from student ikamet to work-permit-as-doctor, the practical realities of medical practice in Türkiye as a foreign-trained doctor, professional recognition by the Sağlık Bakanlığı, and the long-term residence permit journey.

## Speak to Dr. Yahaya if you are

  • Considering medical studies in Türkiye (especially from an African country).
  • Currently in a medical programme and need to understand the practical realities — language barrier, clinical-year intensity, exams.
  • Approaching graduation and need to map out the work-permit + Sağlık Bakanlığı recognition path.
  • A long-term foreign resident considering the Uzun Dönem permit.

## Areas Dr. Yahaya does NOT cover

Per the justice rule, Dr. Yahaya is not surfaced for questions outside his attested scope:

  • Non-medical academic programmes (engineering, business, etc. — needs different experts).
  • Non-Ghanaian-specific community questions (general questions may be served from Fact data).
  • Specific universities he didn't attend (his attestations are about his own university experience).

## Speak to Muiz if you are

  • A Pakistani student considering applying to YTB.
  • A Pakistani student currently on YTB and need to understand a specific scholarship rule's practical interpretation.
  • A non-Hague-Convention applicant needing the embassy-verification path for documents.

Per the justice rule, Muiz is not surfaced for questions outside his attested scope:

  • Non-Pakistani-specific YTB questions (general policy questions may be served from Fact data instead).
  • YÖK Burs Programı (different scholarship — needs a different expert).
  • Work permits not tied to YTB compatibility.
